Challenge yourself to reduce your food waste!
Since 2014, Food Fight, powered by the Fonds Éco IGA and in collaboration with Jour de la Terre, has been supporting you every day with a wide range of tools to help you reduce your food waste.
Every small action counts when it comes to adopting good habits: planning your shopping and weekly menus according to your needs and using local products, properly preserving food, cooking in advance and with what you already have on hand, freezing leftovers, and composting unavoidable scraps.
Thanks to the tips, tools, recipes, and workshops offered by Food Figh, the anti-waste consumption cycle will no longer hold any secrets for you!
Zer-waste tips
Smart hacks
Frozen veggies
Blanching vegetables before freezing them helps deactivate the enzymes responsible for their deterioration, allowing them to retain their flavor and texture for a longer time.
Fresh herbs
Store sturdier herbs like parsley or cilantro in a glass of water in the fridge, and wrap more delicate herbs in a damp paper towel before placing them in a bag.
Berries
Store berries in a closed container lined with a paper towel to absorb moisture, and avoid washing them so they stay fresh longer.
Natural cleaning product
Soak citrus peels in white vinegar for two weeks, then strain and dilute with water to create an effective, affordable, and naturally scented homemade cleaner.
Freezing cream
Fresh cream freezes well in a jar or ice cube tray, and even if it separates slightly when thawed, a quick whisk brings back to its original texture.
Freezing meat
To mimic vacuum sealing, submerge the almost closed bag in cold water to push out the air, then freeze the meat in portions to reduce waste and make thawing easier.
